On December 18th the M.W. Grand Master , M.W. Bro. Ted O’Neil and I visited Bro. John Sanders, a member of Brighton Mark Lodge No 48 in Adelaide  at his home in Mudgeeraba on the Gold Coast where he now resides.  Bro John was waiting outside in his wheelchair to greet us and, with the assistance of Mrs Sanders, ushered us into the lounge where the presentation took place.  M.W. Bro. O’Neil read the citation from the M.W. Grand Master GLMMM S.A.C. and presented Bro. John with the 50 year service jewel sent by R W Bro David Wheatley PGM , the Wor Master of Brighton Mark Lodge No. 48 in South Australia. Bro. John was obviously delighted to receive this jewel and expressed his profound appreciation. The date was precisely the fiftieth anniversary of Bro. John being advanced to the degree of Mark Master Mason in MacDonnell Mark Lodge, one of the precursors of Brighton Mark Lodge.

On behalf of the Wor. Master, Wor. Commander , Officers and Brethren of Kebraoth Mark Lodge No. 30 GLMMMQ we presented Bro John with a card congratulating him on his award and for Mrs Sanders a bouquet of roses.

We spent about an hour in conversation with Bro. John whilst we were enjoying refreshments.  He told us about some of the highlights of his Canadian government work aiding the underprivileged in poorer countries.

18/03/2007 – Townsville set to host new Mark Lodge.

The Grand Secretary has today advised that the recent visit of the Grand Master to Townsville has resulted in a petition being issued to form a Mark Lodge for North Queensland. It is expected that about 40 North Queensland Freemasons will sign the petition to consecrate a new Mark Lodge, and that subject to the Foundation Members satisfying the criteria set down by the General Board, the Grand Master will consecrate the yet to be named Lodge in August. The Lodge will be granted permission to work the Mark Degree only for it’s first 12 months and has asked for permission to be granted to remove the Warrant to other yet to be determined cities in Far North Queensland in order to promote the Order and hopefully raise interest in establishing another Lodge in the future.
